Bette Lynn Paez: Smart Growth for Shelton!

I am Bette Lynn Paez, and I’m running for Mayor because I can bring about the kind of change Shelton deserves.

The issues we face are not glamorous, but they impact the quality of life for everyone in town. Despite what the current administration repeatedly tells us, parking downtown is a mess. Shelton schools lack adequate funding to provide the highest-quality education in a safe environment for both students and teachers. Current sewer capacity cannot support all the construction that has been approved or is in process. We must plan for the SEWER-NAMI heading our way.

For too long, our town has coasted on autopilot. Shelton needs leadership that will bring sunlight and oversight to policies and practices at City Hall. We need to revive the Parking Authority, get serious about infrastructure, and make sure tax revenues benefit everyone.

I am proud of my family’s deep roots in this community, which date back to 1890 when my Wright great-grandparents built a home, dairy farm, and windmill on River Road. My uncle, Ralph “Hoppy” Hopkins, served as Fire Chief in the 1980s, and my cousin Alan Hopkins was a captain with Echo Hose.

After graduating from Shelton High, I went on to earn a BA from Ithaca College and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. I sold computers for IBM in Pittsburgh and owned Bette Lynn’s BakeHouse in Black Rock. I became a Certified Financial Planner™ professional and have spent the last 25 years growing my practice in Shelton. I help my clients avoid "random acts of finance” and look forward to doing the same for Shelton.

As Mayor of Shelton, I will give voters a choice and a voice. I will lead with the courage to face reality, speak the truth, and work to improve the lives of all. I don’t have all the answers, but with your help, I will find solutions that are right for our city. I humbly ask for your trust - and your vote - this fall.

Now let’s get to work! Yes, we want your Likes and Shares on Facebook. We also need contributions - any amount up to $2,000. Crucial to the success of all 22 Democratic candidates on our slate will be knocking on doors, writing post cards, and calling our neighbors. Please hit the JOIN US button to get involved!

Elect A Leader Who Will...

Fix parking downtown!

Downtown parking presents a serious challenge to people who want to visit, shop, and enjoy Shelton. We can address this mess by reactivating the Parking Authority to assess the situation, make recommendations, and implement solutions that include disability access.

Invest in high-quality education for our students!

Shelton schools must have the resources to graduate students who are ready for the workforce or college, whichever path they choose. Together the Mayor and the Board of Education must accommodate the looming cuts in funding that will trickle down from the federal to state to local level.

Prevent the SEWER-NAMI!

Current sewer capacity cannot support all the construction that is approved or in process. Several districts are already dangerously close to their limits, putting undue stress on the rest of the system. We need to assign financial responsibility appropriately instead of waiting to spend tax dollars on an emergency fix.
